Apparently there is something about the juxtaposition of an abortionist who kills born-alive babies and a Planned Parenthood “gala” that turned the president’s tummy. Or at least that is what some are suggesting.

The law has a word for someone who lies, cheats, and steals. That person is called a criminal. Yet when an organization such as Planned Parenthood takes actions that mirror a criminal’s, people look the other way, the government willingly hands it money, and supporters cry out about the unfair treatment it receives. If we are to stop these crimes committed by Planned Parenthood, we must teach, we must open eyes, and we must expose its secrets.

As Catholics around the world rejoice at the election of a new pope, Americans worry about the leadership in our country by our bishops. We read canon law and wonder why it isn’t always being upheld. We question those in politics who claim to be Catholic, yet who trounce on the faith.

Last week, the Holy Spirit inspired dozens of men to elect a new leader for the Catholic Church. Though speculation abounded as to which of the cardinals would become the next pope, we trusted that God had a plan. God knows and understands the trials facing the Church and her people, and He gave us Pope Francis—a man drawing inspiration from a saint who gave up everything for God and the Church.

There should be no debate when it comes to a human life. Once a child is created, he is a person from that moment onward—a person who deserves both respect and protection. Yet in today’s world, he has little of either. Abortion takes countless lives day after day, and unless we as a society come to realize the value of a person—no matter how small, no matter what stage of development—babies will never be safe.

Today’s commentary addresses the media’s involvement with some recent behaviors of the clergy and encourages us to pray that the successor of St. Peter continues to be the rock that Christ intended.

The evil and the horror that are abortion and the blatant disregard for the value of human life cannot be overcome by merely reducing their amount. When people continually commit atrocities, lives are continually lost. The only way to combat this is to completely eradicate this evil. Today’s commentary addresses this.

This nation’s moral decline is astounding not only because it has been a relatively swift slide, but more importantly because Catholics have taken leading roles in bringing about the decline. Until the time of his death, Ted Kennedy was, for years, the most influential U.S. politician advocating an anti-Christian moral culture in America.

Sandra Fluke, the champion of free birth control for women, has reached a new low in her quest to shame the American public into believing that when it comes to promiscuity and sex, employers with well-formed consciences are badly in need of government intervention.

The latest action from the Obama administration is but another sleight of hand designed to ignore the objections of those who have expressed concerns about providing insurance coverage to employees for birth control services while claiming that quite the opposite is true.

On January 16, in preparation for the 40th anniversary of Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton, the Pew Research Foundation issued the results of a 1,502-person survey dealing with abortion and the attitudes of those surveyed.

It is extremely difficult to think about what one might say after 40 years of decriminalized barbarism. Yes, that is exactly what abortion is—and yet most people are blind to the effect it has had on the family and on our nation.

I am having a difficult time discerning exactly what it is that has Cardinal Timothy Dolan so hot under the collar when it comes to the pro-abortion inclinations of his friend, Catholic New York Governor Andrew Cuomo.

Anyone who has seen the latest DROID DNA smart phone ads realizes that such devices have become nearly inseparable from man’s person. As a matter of fact, the ads suggest that the phone is so much a part of the person that even his intelligence will be improved by merely using the phone.

There’s no shortage of Catholics serving in political offices. Knowing that should be comforting. But there is a shortage of Catholics who adhere to, and stand up for, Catholic teaching—and that should give us chills. In today’s culture, where pretty much anything goes, we need Catholic leaders who will lead, not cower to organizations such as Planned Parenthood. Read today’s commentary for more on this timely subject.

Contraception has ensnared women in more ways than one. According to many cultural propagandists, it has become part of their American heritage, even though truth be told, women are the ones who suffer and even die because of it.

Just yesterday, the Al Smith Dinner, which has been the focus of many efforts at American Life League in our quest to encourage Cardinal Timothy Dolan to disinvite President Barack Obama, took place with the totally pro-abortion president attending and in excellent humor—as was the cardinal.
