Steven Rattner, whose pedigree includes Wall Street financial expert and MSNBC’s economic analyst, is also a proponent of “death panels,” and he explains his use of the term in such a way that one is left wondering exactly what he would do with the ill and dying if he were in charge.

Nearly 40 years ago, in the chill of winter, the United States Supreme Court decided that abortion was legal in America for any reason at any point in pregnancy because women, in consultation with their doctors, should have the right to abort their own children.

We are now 30 days away from the October 18 Al Smith Dinner. The opportunity for Cardinal Dolan to disinvite President Obama is fading quickly, and many are left wondering why it has not come to pass that the invitation has been withdrawn.

A friend recently sent an article my way with this interesting headline: “Number of ‘ART’ Babies Reaches 5 Million.” The article explained that, according to statistics, there are around 1.5 million ART cycles every year with a resulting 350,000 babies. This means that the success rate for artificial fertilization is roughly 30 percent. This also means that 70 percent fail.

The confluence of events surrounding the Obama administration’s arrogant political use of Catholics is dreadful! The most recent announcement from the Obama campaign about a new 2012 division—known oxymoronically as Catholics for President Obama—is one example of what I mean.

Shortly after American Life League’s “Open Letter to Cardinal Dolan” began reaching grassroots Americans, we received a disturbing and exceedingly sad e-mail from a Catholic named Nancy.

Anyone who enters a hospital or is suffering from a serious illness or accident need beware of the POLST form, for their very lives depend upon whether or not this form is completed and followed. Today’s commentary addresses this and cautions us to be aware of what it entails so that we can not only educate ourselves, but our loved ones as well.

People do not understand the tragic consequences of in vitro fertilization. They see that a child has been created, but they do not see that children have been destroyed. Today’s commentary discusses just how prevalent IVF is and shows that there is an alternative—an alternative in which children do not have to die.

Anticipation is building to a fever pitch in and around the nation’s capital as various types of leaders jockey for position and posture while waiting for that big moment when the Supreme Court reaches a decision on Obamacare. The questions remain: What will be the fallout and what can we expect?

Ever since Pope Paul VI issued his encyclical, Humanae Vitae, Catholic dissidents have tried their hardest to misrepresent the teaching, debunk the teaching, or generally confuse Catholics from one end of this country to the other. In fact, one might say that the confusion over this teaching is worldwide.

A recent headline proclaiming the great advances science has made in detecting defects in preborn children sent a chill down my pro-life spine. Proclaiming the incredible news that a day is upon us when scientists will be able to run genetic tests that will identify more than 3,500 genetic irregularities, the reporter echoed a concern raised by some in the medical community that such testing could lead to more abortions!

President Obama’s positions on “social issues” have never been known as consistent or logical. This can be said about many questions including the human rights of innocent and less fortunate human beings. One current example is the contrast between how the White House handled its opposition to a ban on sex-selection abortions versus its position on a toxic poison that was added to drinking water being consumed by Afghan female students in Takhar Province, Afghanistan.

My daughter, mother of six boys, recently said to me, “It is so hard to keep our kids safe these days, whether we are at a playground or shopping.” I commiserated with her on this point and reflected on the fact that we were never confronted with so many threats to safety when our children were toddlers. Times have changed.
