(CNSNews.com) - In a vintage Trump news conference on Wednesday, the president alternately took credit and shared credit for passage of what he called "the largest tax cut in the history of our country."
"It's been an amazing experience," the president gushed, as he stood surrounded by the Republican lawmakers who passed the bill.
Trump invited the Republicans standing with him to share the "glamour and the glory."
He thanked Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) by name: "It was a little team," Trump said. "We just got together, and we would world very hard, didn't we?
"It seems like -- it was a lot of fun. It's always a lot of fun when you win. If you work hard and lose, that's not acceptable," the president said.
Item by item, President Trump discussed what was in the bill, including tax cuts for the middle class; an estate tax adjustment that will allow farms and small businesses to stay in the family; and incentives for corporations to return to America.
President Trump also took credit for killing Obamacare and opening part of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) to energy exploration.
"We -- I hate to say this, but we essentially repealed Obamacare, because we got rid of the individual mandate, which was terrible," Trump said. "And that was a primary source of funding of Obamacare.
"And ANWR," he continued. "So a friend of mine called up about ANWR. He's in the office. He said, 'You didn't get ANWR?' And I said, 'Tell me about ANWR.' He said, 'We've been trying to get that passed, the whole country, the world. They tried in Ronald Reagan, they tried with the Bushes, they tried with everybody. They never got ANWR.' But we got ANWR in this bill.
"So we have ANWR, we have mandate, and we have the tax cut and we have the reform. I mean, when you add up the size of this bill, it's really great."
Trump named and thanked many of the Republicans who voted for the bill: "All friends," he said. "I mean, I look at these people, it's like we're warriors together."
"We had fun," he told House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.). "Did we have a good time?" Trump asked him.
"Steve Scalise. "He's braver than all of us," Trump said. "Where is he? Oh, boy, I don't know. He had a -- he had a rougher year than most of us. But that's a hell of a way to lose weight, Steve. You said you lost -- not a good way. We love you Steve. Great job. Great job."
Before turning the microphone over to his Republican friends, the president said:
"We're bringing the entrepreneur back into this country. We're getting rid of all the knots and all the ties. And we're going to see -- you're going to see, you're going to see what happens. And ultimately, what does it mean? It means jobs. Jobs, jobs, jobs.
"So it's going to be really a very special period of time. We're in a very special period time. And it's going to be even more so."
