(CNSNews.com) – The State Department’s Country Reports on Human Rights Practices for 2015 says that the number of abortions done annually in that Communist country is about 23 million.

“The National Health Population and Family Planning Commission reported that 13 million women annually terminated unplanned pregnancies,” the report said. “An official news media outlet also reported at least an additional 10 million chemically induced abortions were performed in nongovernment facilities.”

That means that in China, 63,014 abortions took place each day, 2,626 abortions an hour, or 44 abortions per minute in 2015, according to the State Department.

Until now, 13 million was the number of abortions most often cited as taking place per year in China.

“Thirteen million abortions a year was already an incomprehensible statistic,” Reggie Littlejohn, president of Women’s Right Without Frontiers, said in a statement released to the media after the State Department report was released on Tuesday, “but to add another 10 million is truly staggering, incomprehensibly tragic.”

“This report proves what advocates have been saying all along: coercion, forced abortion and involuntary sterilization continue unabated through 2015,” Littlejohn said. “They will continue under the Two-Child Policy.

“Unmarried women and third children will still be forcibly aborted,” Littlejohn said.

The report also noted that forcing women to have an abortion for violating family planning policy is widespread in the country.

“Regulations requiring women who violate the family-planning policy to terminate their pregnancies still existed and were enforced in Anhui, Hebei, Hubei, Hunan, Jilin, Ningxia, Liaoning, and Heilongjiang provinces,” the report said.

“Ten other provinces--Fujian, Guizhou, Guangdong, Gansu, Jiangxi, Qinghai, Sichuan, Shanxi, Shaanxi, and Yunnan--require ‘remedial measures,’ an official euphemism for abortion, to deal with unauthorized pregnancies,” it said.

“In the 13 remaining provinces where provincial regulations do not explicitly require termination of pregnancy or remedial measures, some local officials still coerced abortions to meet birth limitation quotas,” the report said.
