(CNSNews.com) – Ted Cruz on Tuesday said that the threat from radical Islamic terrorists can’t be defeated when the Obama administration refuses to acknowledge the true nature of that threat.

‘We cannot defeat radical Islamic terrorism with an administration that is unwilling to utter the words ‘radical Islamic terrorism,’” Cruz said as the International Association of Firefighters Legislative Conference and Presidential Forum in Washington, D.C.

During his speech to firefighters and paramedics Cruz addressed the Obama administration’s foreign policy.

“What we’re doing abroad isn’t working,” Cruz said. Right now our friends don’t trust us, and our enemies neither fear nor respect us.

“A lot of men and women in this room served in the military before you became first responders,” Cruz said.

“The respect America has in the world has never been lower than it is right now,” Cruz said. “Let’s take one example that all of us are intimately familiar with – radical Islamic terrorism.

“We cannot defeat radical Islamic terrorism with an administration that is unwilling to utter the words ‘radical Islamic terrorism,’” Cruz said. “It doesn’t make sense to refuse to acknowledge the nature of the threat we are facing.”
