(CNSNews.com) – Lt. Gen. (ret.) Michael T. Flynn, who reportedly is on the list of presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump’s vice presidential picks, supports abortion and thinks homosexual marriage is fine, according to his statements in an interview with ABC’s Martha Raddatz over the weekend.

On ABC News Sunday, Raddatz asked the retired general, “But since you haven't taken yourself out of vice presidential contention, let me quickly ask you a couple of questions about where you stand on other issues. Abortion.”

Flynn said, “Abortion, I think it's a thing for women. And these are, these are difficult issues. But I think women have to be able to choose what they -- you know, that sort of the right of choice. But I think that that's a difficult legal decision that -- and I think that women are so important in that, in that decision-making process. And they are, they are the ones that have to make the decision because they're the one that's -- ones that are going to decide to bring up that child or not.”

ABC’s Raddatz then asked, “Same-sex marriage. Do you agree with the--?”

Lt. Gen. Flynn said, “ I don't have any -- you know what, I mean, I'm like -- I'm about national security. I'm not going to, you know, I mean, I --.  What people do in their private lives, I'm not -- these are not big issues that our country's dealing with that are -- that will cause our country to collapse.”

As for his being a registered Democrat,  Lt. Gen. Flynn said earlier in the interview, “I grew up as a Democrat in a very strong Democratic family. But I will tell you that the Democratic Party that exists in this country is not the Democratic Party that I grew up around in my, in my upbringing, not at all.”

Lt. Gen. (ret.) Michael Flynn, 58, served in the U.S. Army from 1981 to 2014.  He is a former director of the Defense Intelligence Agency and former chairman of the Military Intelligence Board.
