(CNSNews.com) – Because of her strong support for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), a Catholic, will be presented with the 21st Annual International Role Model Award by the Equality Forum, next week in Philadelphia while the Democratic National Convention is underway.
“We are thrilled to present Leader Pelosi with this prestigious award for her long-standing support and her leadership in advancing LGBT civil rights,” said Malcolm Lazin, the founder and executive director of the Equality Forum.

Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell will receive the Frank Kameny Award from Equality forum. As the group stated in a press release, “Named for the father of the LGBT civil rights movement, Kameny fought to overturn Eisenhower’s Executive Order 10450, which prohibited the employment of gays and lesbians by the federal government.”
“Governor Rendell is an early pioneer in the fight for LGBT equality,” said Lazin.
The award ceremony will take place at the National Museum of American Jewish History in Philadelphia, during the convention, on July 28.
Equality Forum is a nonprofit group that “coordinates LGBT History Month, produces documentary films, undertakes high-impact initiatives and presents the largest annual national and international LGBT civil rights summit,” according to its website.
