(CNSNews.com) – Some conservatives were critical of the newly released report by the House Select Committee on Benghazi, claiming that crucial questions were not answered, that administration officials clearly lied about the anti-Muslim video, and, as author and talk-radio host Mark Levin said, “even within the Republican ranks on that committee, they felt [Chairman] Gowdy was too soft.”
On a related point, Patricia Smith, the mother of Benghazi victim Sean Smith, told Fox’s Risk & Reward program that Hillary Clinton is a “liar,” and urged the media to “please, do something,” and “don’t just talk” and “just listen to her [Clinton],” but “question it!” (Video below.)
On Sept. 11, 2012, radical Islamists attacked the U.S. compound in Benghazi, Libya and a nearby facility, killing U.S. Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens, Diplomat Sean Smith, and CIA contractors (and retired Navy SEALs) Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty. The House Select Committee on Benghazi, headed by Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.), was established in May 2014 to investigate the terrorist attack.
After two years and $7.1 million, the committee released its report on June 28. On his talk-radio show that day, conservative author and legal scholar Mark Levin said, “While people were out there touting Trey Gowdy, including talk show hosts, I’ve never been a big Trey Gowdy fan.”
“And you can see Representatives [Jim] Jordan [R-Ohio] and [Mike] Pompeo [R-Kan.] release their own addition to the report,” said Levin. “That tells me that even within the Republican ranks on that committee, they felt Gowdy was too soft.”
Reps. Jordan and Pompeo released what they entitled “Proposed Additional Views” on Tuesday, separate from the House Select Committee’s 800-page report.
Levin further remarked that “one of the crucial issues they couldn’t get to the bottom of” was what President Barack Obama did after his 5:15PM meeting with then-Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta on Sept. 11, 2012. The next day, Obama skipped his intelligence briefing and flew to Las Vegas for a fundraiser.

“You know, they met for several hours at the White House, this report points out,” said Levin. “They met for several hours for the purpose of getting their talking points straight. And they send out the loathsome Susan Rice, who lies time and again, and time and again, to the American people about the video.”
For several weeks after the Benghazi attack, Susan Rice, then U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, the White House, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and other administration officials claimed that the terrorist attacks was sparked by an anti-Muslim YouTube video. Contemporaneous documents and subsequent testimony show that the video claim was false.
“Obama lied about it,” said Levin. “Hillary lied about it. They all lied about it. There’s absolutely zero information suggesting that the YouTube video had anything to do with anyone at anytime in any way.”
Levin further commented on why it took so long for the House Select Committee on Benghazi to be formed, one year and eight months after the Benghazi attack.
“Do you know why it took this committee so long?” said Levin. “Not only because some of them being incompetents, [but] a complete cover-up and stonewall job by this administration. And also, remember how long it took to even set up this committee? Remember who the Speaker of the House was who was blocking it?”
“That’s right, John Boehner,” said Levin. “John Boehner was blocking it. Then he reluctantly agreed to it and put his guy [Trey Gowdy in].”
In a statement on Tuesday, Media Research Center President Brent Bozell said it was Chairman Gowdy’s job “to get to the truth, and he punted.”
“Just as with the IRS investigation, the Republicans lacked the fortitude to confront those responsible,” said Bozell. “Who denied the multiple requests for additional security for the compound? No answer. Who is being held responsible for the deaths of these men? No answer.”
Should the Commander-in-Chief be held responsible for the multiple failures of the military?” he said. “They wouldn’t even state that Hillary Clinton lied about the video though her own emails, read by committee members, prove she had!”
