(CNSNews.com) - The senior director for intelligence on the National Security Council, Ezra Cohen-Watnick, has been removed from his post, the White House said Wednesday.

A White House official said National Security Adviser Gen. H.R. McMaster “appreciates the good work accomplished in the NSC’s Intelligence directorate under Ezra Cohen’s leadership.” McMaster “has determined that, at this time, a different set of experiences is best-suited to carrying that work forward.”

“General McMaster is confident that Ezra will make many further significant contributions to national security in another position in the administration,” the WH official said in a statement.

Cohen-Watnick was brought in under the leadership of then-National Security Adviser Michael Flynn.

Another member of the NSC, senior Middle East adviser Derek Harvey, who was also hired by Flynn, was removed from the council last week.
