( - President Donald Trump announced Friday that he will announce his pick to replace Justice Anthony Kennedy on the Supreme Court.

He plans to interview two frontrunners while he’s in Bedminster, N.J.

"I'll be announcing it the Monday after July 4,” Trump told reporters during a gaggle on board Air Force One en route to New Jersey. “I'll be announcing it on the 9th.”

“We've got great people," he said. “I may have two of them come up, like the old days to Bedminster...could be this weekend.

“Outside of war and peace, of course, the most important decision you make is the selection of a Supreme Court judge, if you get it. As you know, there are many presidents who never get a choice," the president said.

Trump said he won’t ask them to undo Roe v. Wade, the 1973 Supreme Court case that legalized abortion.

"It is a group of highly talented, very brilliant, mostly conservative judges," Trump said regarding his list of potential justices.

He said he was “very honored” to replace Kennedy during his term.

Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) is one of the 25 possible Supreme Court justices on Trump’s short list.

“He's an outstanding talent,” Trump said. “I actually saw him on television last night, where he said he would love the job. You know, usually, they don't say that.

Trump said he and Lee have become “good friends,” and he’s a “very good guy,” who is “very talented, very smart.”
