( Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) announced on Thursday that, if the Republicans win the majority in November, that he will run for House speaker.

"Should the American people entrust us with the majority again in the 116th Congress, our clear mandate will be to continue working with President Trump to keep the promises we made, to stand up for the rule of law and the Constitution, and to put the interests of the people before those of the swamp,” Jordan said in a statement.

Jordan, founder of the House Freedom Caucus, has been extremely vocal over his discontent with the inability of Congress to support the president and pass legislation, especially with the majority in both the House and the Senate.

“President Trump has taken bold action on behalf of the American people,” the statement continued. “Congress has not held up its end of the deal, but we can change that. It’s time to do what we said.”

Jordan also lays out some actions that he will take as Speaker, including “actually” repealing Obamacare, building the border wall and implementing immigration reform, and ending taxpayer funding for Planned Parenthood.

Jordan will likely have tough competition in the race, as Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) has also announced his bid for House speaker. McCarthy has a very good relationship with Trump which is expected to help him in the race.
