(CNSNews.com) - Governor Andrew Cuomo (D-N.Y.) called on Democrats to “threaten to shut down the government if they don’t get a real gun control law.”

Cuomo made the comments Saturday as he delivered a eulogy for a state attorney who was fatally wounded by a stray bullet in Brooklyn earlier this month.

During the eulogy Cuomo said, “It’s time for our national leaders to say that that is their top priority, to save lives of their constituents, with the same gusto and the same commitment that the far right pursues their agenda.”

“If the far right is willing to shut down the government because they don’t get a tax cut for the rich, then our people should have the save resolve and threaten to shut down the government if they don’t get a real gun control law to stop the killing of their innocent.”

Cuomo spoke at Emmanuel Baptist Church at a service for attorney Carey Gabay, 43, who was killed on Sept. 7 by a stray bullet in a gang-related gun battle during festivities for the West Indian Day Parade.
