Trump Thanks Police and First Responders for Their Courageous Efforts in Saving Lives in Las Vegas

( - In an address to the nation this morning, President Donald Trump mourned the loss of more than 50 lives in Las Vegas—victims of a mass murderer—and thanked the Las Vegas police and other first responders for making courageous efforts to stop the shooter and save the lives of the wounded.

“I want to thank the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and all of the first responders for their courageous efforts and for helping to save the lives of so many,” said Trump. “The speed with which they acted is miraculous and prevented further loss of life. To have found the shooter so quickly after the first shots were fired is something for which we will always be thankful and grateful. It shows what true professionalism is all about.

He called for the flag to be flown at half-mast in memory of those who had fallen.

Trump concluded his remarks with a call for national unity.

“In moments of tragedy and horror America comes together as one,” he said, “and it always has.

“Our unity cannot be shattered by evil,” he said. “Our bonds cannot be broken by violence.”

“We pray for the entire nation to find unity and peace,” he said.
