(CNSNews.com) – Former Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Pa.) told CNSNews.com on Friday he has “no doubt” that President Donald Trump will follow through on his promise to appoint a pro-life Supreme Court justice, including to fill the seat left vacant by the death of Justice Antonin Scalia.

At the March for Life in Washington, D.C., CNSNews.com asked Santorum:“As a candidate, President Trump promised to nominate ‘pro-life justices to the U.S. Supreme Court.’ How crucial is it that Trump follow through on that promise?”

“I think he is following through,” Santorum responded. “If you look at the list that he put together, and he said he's going to pick from that list, they are solid, good guys. So I have no doubt he’s going to follow through.”

When asked how President Trump is doing on the pro-life issue so far, Santorum pointed to the presence of Vice President Mike Pence, the highest government official ever to address the March for Life.

“Well I think it sums up the fact that Mike Pence is here today,” Santorum said. “No other Republican president has sent either himself or his vice president to be here. The fact that he came here today is a huge statement of his commitment.

“You know, if you look at the list of [potential] Supreme Court justices, they're solid," Santorum said. "Nobody doubts that these folks are constitutionalists. And if they’re constitutionalists, we should feel good about it in the pro-life movement.

"So I'm very, very excited that we’re going to have a president who understands the opportunity that’s before him right now with this pick and maybe one or two others. And I think he’s up to it, which I’m very excited about.”
