Removing and then banning the Confederate Flag, removing Alexander Hamilton from the $10 bill, and talk of removing references to southern slave holders is an all-out assault on America waged by those who hate it, never understood it, and yet lavish in its freedoms. Those who acquiesce to the erasing of the history of the United States of America, on both sides of the political spectrum – citizens included – do so in an unwittingly dangerous episode that will doom us all to repeat the mistakes of history.
America has had a tumultuous history, and we are once again smack dab in the middle of another difficult time. We are in the midst of mob rule taking over any reasoned debate, or any dialogue whatsoever, by the demons of past tyrannies come to life. However, mob rule carried by the internet can influence minds more numerous than any dictator of the past could ever have dreamed.
In no rational way can the left’s philosophy ever be characterized as, “live and let live.” That phrase belongs to the conservative who defends long history, has respect for those who gave their lives and for the hard lessons of history. Reminders of our history discipline us, make us think, make us feel.
In no rational way can the left ever be characterized as liberal. Some believe calling the left, “liberal” is an effective way to minimize their influence. I say no more! The conservative epitomizes the true meaning of liberal. Many years ago, liberal meant open-minded – a lust for life and learning. That does not describe the hate-filled left, who demonize and target and stalk. They are not liberal. They are the extreme of everything unholy.
In no rational way can conservatives be called closed-minded, when it is the left who refuses to allow alternative views to exist – alternative views that recommend thoughtfulness and character, class and dignity. But not only does the left reject arguments, they make you pay with loss of property. This nation has seen the results of leftist activism on a plethora of issues. The nation would have preferred a constructive debate – a “debate” on gay “marriage,” a “debate” on gun control, or a “debate” on the causes and effects of the Founding of this nation and the Civil War. People are not afraid to talk about things in a rational way, but today, in America, you don’t get to, because the left makes you afraid to talk at all.
Is this how our nation will continue, with everyone at each other’s throats until half of us clam up so the screamers get to make the rules?
Our nation cannot continue this way. Provoking law-abiding, peaceful people is not a hobby of the conservative, and the majority of this nation would never dare. It has become so easy, in the made-up world of social media, to say whatever you want, use your words to hurt, accuse, and silence, all anonymously.
It only takes one person to stand up and say they won’t deal with these bully tactics, but unfortunately, not enough of those types of heroes are in places of honor these days. These days, it seems that there are either the screamers or the sheep.
Erasing the history of the confederacy doesn’t help anyone understand our past. We have to see it, know it, understand what happened, or we are going to repeat it – perhaps not in the same way, but certainly in another form. Today while people decry slavery, some would use force to achieve their ends. There are differences, but the principle is the same.
Removing Alexander Hamilton from our cash just because someone, somewhere arbitrarily decided we needed a woman on our money is childish and foolish. But then, that is the desire of the left, to keep all grown men and women in the constant state of dependency on government, like perpetual teenagers, throwing fits as a result of the craziness of their hormonal adjustments.
The demands of this or that to atone for the past, or seeking out differences just to scream the need for equality, has this nation on edge. It is the left that brought us here with no plans to lead us out.
That’s up to each of us.
