Some of the 1,000 Christian evangelicals that met with Donald Trump recently in New York City are speaking out about their encounter with the presumptive GOP presidential nominee, including iconic Christian leader Dr. James Dobson, founder of Focus on the Family and Family Talk, who said he believes Trump recently came to embrace the faith.
“There are a lot of people ministering to him personally,” Dobson said in an interview with Godfactor.com that was posted on Friday. “He did accept a relationship with Christ.
“I know the person who led him to Christ, and that’s fairly recent,” Dobson said.
Dobson didn’t know the details of the conversion, according to the interview.
“I don’t know when it was, but it has not been long,” Dobson said, “and I believe he really made a commitment, but he’s a baby Christian.
“We all need to be praying for him, especially if there’s a possibility of him being our next executive officer,” Dobson said.
Dobson also said religious leaders should “cut [Trump] some slack.”
