Bill Maher, the leftist host of HBO's Real Time, said he hopes the U.S. economy will crash and enter recession because it will "get rid of Trump," a political wish that Rev. Franklin Graham denounced as "vicious" because it would bring "suffering and pain for the entire country."
In a June 11 post on Facebook, Rev. Graham said, "Bill Maher says he hopes for a recession so he can get rid of President Trump! He’s wishing suffering and pain for the entire country—a crashing economy—purely to fulfill his own political agenda."
"The liberal socialist left are so vicious in their eagerness for this president to fail, they have total disregard for the positive things he is doing for our nation," said Graham. "They just can’t stand the good news about the economy, jobs, the support of our military, and more."
"What do Bill Maher and others with socialist-thinking like him want America to look like? Venezuela?" said Graham. "Long food lines, anarchy, total collapse?"
He continued, "I’m praying for President Trump not to fail, but to look to God for help, and to succeed. That means good things for Americans."
"I hope tens of thousands recognize the socialist agenda and are praying with me," said the reverend.
On the June 8 edition of Real Time, Maher said of a recession, "By the way, I'm hoping for it because one way you get rid of Trump is a crashing economy. So please, bring on the recession."
"Sorry if that hurts people," said Maher, "but it's either root for a recession or you lose your democracy.... I feel like the bottom has to fall out at some point."
