Commenting on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's (D-Calif.) rebuke of a reporter for asking whether she "hates" President Donald Trump, evangelical Pastor Robert Jeffress said Pelosi was out of step with her Catholic faith because she supports abortion and "celebrates her belief in the murder of the unborn."
On Lou Dobbs Tonight, Dec. 6, Pastor Jeffress said, “I find it interesting that she is so indignant about being accused of hatred, saying it goes against her Catholic faith. Well, what about her belief in unrestricted abortion? That certainly goes against her faith, and she doesn’t apologize for that."
"She celebrates her belief in the murder of the unborn," said Jeffress, who spent that Friday meeting with President Trump at the White House, along with several other faith leaders.
Jeffress continued, “I mean, her and Joe Biden? Joe Biden was forbidden to have Communion by his own church because he’s out of step with his church. And certainly Nancy Pelosi is out of step with the teaching of the Catholic Church. I just find this religion of hers kind of strange and certainly hypocritical in places."
When Dobbs asked about President Trump saying he does not believe that Pelosi prays for him, Jeffress said that he told the president "there are millions and millions of Christians who are truly praying for you and believe in you because you are the most pro-life, pro-religious liberty, pro-Israel president in history."
"And you can be sure that when somebody takes those positions, they are on God’s side," said the pastor, who leads the First Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas, which reportedly has 14,000 members.
Lou Dobbs then mentioned that Pope Francis had recently suggested that President Trump is like King Herod. Jeffress replied, “Herod is the one who murdered thousands of children trying to get rid of Jesus. President Trump is the one who has protected the lives of children in the womb. He’s the most pro-life president in history."
"Herod wanted to extinguish Christmas by getting rid of Christ before the first Christmas," said Jeffress. "President Trump celebrates Christmas, has brought it back to the forefront of our country, and that means bringing Christ back as well.”
Pelosi, like Biden, is a Catholic who frequently expresses support for abortion without restrictions and also supports so-called marriage between homosexuals.
The Catechism of the Catholic Church (2271) teaches, "Since the first century the Church has affirmed the moral evil of every procured abortion. This teaching has not changed and remains unchangeable. Direct abortion, that is to say, abortion willed either as an end or a means, is gravely contrary to the moral law:
"You shall not kill the embryo by abortion and shall not cause the newborn to perish. God, the Lord of life, has entrusted to men the noble mission of safeguarding life, and men must carry it out in a manner worthy of themselves. Life must be protected with the utmost care from the moment of conception: abortion and infanticide are abominable crimes."
The Catechism also teaches, "Basing itself on Sacred Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as acts of grave depravity, tradition has always declared that 'homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered.' They are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. Under no circumstances can they be approved."
