During a commercial break on his show Steve Harvey gave his audience members some advice on faith and success, explaining how he got rich and asking them, “When have you really asked God to be rich?”

“Most people are not rich because they ain’t ever asked to be rich,” said Steve Harvey. “Think about it. When have you really asked God to be rich? That’s probably why, if you not rich and you want to be, you might not be. You have not because you ask not.”

Below is a transcript of Steve Harvey’s advice to his audience:

“Most people are not rich because they ain’t ever asked to be rich.

“Think about it. When have you really asked God to be rich? That’s probably why, if you not rich and you want to be, you might not be. You have not because you ask not.

“Hell, I asked.

“Because I’ve been poor. I lived in a car for three years. I’ve been homeless. So, I had enough of that. I asked, ‘Let me be rich?’ I’m going to do some things. I’ll do what I got to do. I’ll work hard. Just let me see what that’s like.

“Because people tell you a lot of stuff about money: money is the root of all evil; money can’t buy you happiness. You people ain’t got no money.

“I’m telling you. I have lived in a car. I’ve had no money before. It’s way better to have money. It’s way better. I don’t know if you noticed, but there’s a huge difference when you have money.

“Now, true. Money can’t buy you happiness, but it can park you right in front of happy house.”
