In a Monday morning tweet, former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee  poked fun at Democrats for their stance on voter ID laws, saying, “Maybe Russians can just show up and vote! No ID required.”

“A satirical blog makes more sense than Dems on voter fraud,” Gov. Mike Huckabee said on his Twitter page. “Dems are fearful of Russian election meddling, but oppose voter ID. Maybe Russians can just show up and vote! No ID required. Russians welcome!”

Gov. Huckabee’s tweet stems from an Aug. 21, 2018 satirical Babylon Bee piece titled “Democrats Demand Vigilance Against Election Hacking Unless It Involves Voter ID Laws” that points to the hypocrisy of some Democratic policies concerning elections, national security.

“Democrats in Congress have just confirmed their commitment to safeguarding America’s elections from any attempts to defraud the system, unless those safeguards involve some form of voter identification requirement,” reads the satire piece. “Concerned about the influence of Russian bots and other who may act like American citizens to dishonestly manipulate the ballot box, Democrats insisted the government make every effort to protect the election process from fraud, short of requiring voters to provide proof they are who they say they are.”

The piece concludes, saying, “At publishing time, they [Democrats] had also stated they were firmly committed to the security of the nation, unless that involved enforcing immigration laws and border security.”
