Mark Levin spoke about the left’s policy objective of eliminating the Electoral College on his nationally syndicated radio talk show on Monday, asking his viewers to “think about how balkanized the nation would be” if there were no Electoral College.
“So we should get rid of the Electoral College so less populated states have no say in anything,” Mark Levin said. “Now, I want you to think about how balkanized the nation would be.”
Mark Levin’s remarks come after repeated calls from present and former Democratic representatives to abolish the Electoral College, Rep. Steve Cohen (D-Tenn.) even introducing a constitutional amendment which would abolish the Electoral College. “In two presidential elections since 2000, including the most recent one in which Hillary Clinton won 2.8 million more votes than her opponent, the winner of the popular vote did not win the election because of the distorting effect of the outdated Electoral College,” stated Rep. Cohen. Former Secretary of State and Democratic Party presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, former Attorney General Eric Holder and current Democratic presidential primary candidate, South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg, among others, also called for an end to the Electoral College.
Below is a transcript of Mark Levin’s comments from his show on Monday:
“Now, we keep hearing that Nancy – excuse me – that Hillary Clinton won the popular vote. One of the ways they do this is these blue states are overwhelmingly blue, their populations are overwhelmingly Democrat, and so they run up the vote in these blue states. ‘See that. We got more votes than Trump did, and yet, he won the Electoral College. Therefore, the Electoral College is racist, and it needs to go.’ The Electoral College is here for that very reason – so one state or a handful of states or a handful of cities don’t control the entirety of the country. The Electoral College is genius. Absolutely has nothing to do with race. It has everything to do with Republicanism.
“That’s why they destroyed the Senate at the beginning of the last century. The point of the Senate was to make sure that the states had representatives, had representation rather in the federal government. So, the direct election of senators, what do you get? More leftism, more progressivism – another barrier destroyed.
“So we should get rid of the Electoral College so less populated states have no say in anything. Now, I want you to think about how balkanized the nation would be.
“So, the blue states with heavier populations would be dictating to the red states with more suburban and rural populations – you know, the red states where more of our produce and livestock, produce raised, livestock raised. And how would the blue states eat? In other words, the consumers would be dictating to the producers when it comes to food, pretty much.
“Well, what if the producers don’t want to be dictated to? You see, this is the problem.
“The Democrat Party, and I’ll say this, is really unhinged from our republic. It’s unhinged from our founding. It has broken away from our basic principles for the purpose of gaining power. It’s very much like a European or a Third World party. And it lives and survives on balkanization, whether it’s the Electoral College, whether it’s race, whatever it is – whatever it is.”
