In a post on his Twitter page on Sunday, legendary American singer, song writer, guitarist, and fiddler famous for his contributions to country and southern rock music, Charlie Daniels commented on socialism, suggesting that “Venezuela stands as a stark modern day reminder that SOCIALISM SUCKS!!”

“Socialism starts out with ‘we’re going to give you everything[’] and ends up with, [‘]we’re going to take everything away from you,’” stated Charlie Daniels in a tweet. “Venezuela stands as a stark modern day reminder that SOCIALISM SUCKS!!”

Charlie Daniels remarks came as the Venezuela crisis continues to escalate. According to BBC News, “The South American country has been caught in a downward spiral for years with growing political discontent further fuelled by skyrocketing hyperinflation, power cuts and shortages of food and medicine[, and m]ore than three million Venezuelans have left the country in recent years.”

BBC News reported further that socialist leaders President Maduro and his predecessor, the late President Hugo Chávez, are the target of critics, many claiming “the socialist policies brought in which aimed to help the poor backfired. Take price controls, for example. They were introduced by President Chávez to make basic goods more affordable to the poor by capping the price of flour, cooking oil and toiletries.

“But this meant that the few Venezuelan businesses producing these items no longer found it profitable to make them,” noted BBC News.

Earlier on Sunday, Charlie Daniels also warned of “goodies” from “democrats” in a tweet:

“Anybody who thinks the goodies the democrats want to give away won’t get into your pocket eventually better think again. It starts at the top and works it’s [sic] way down as the bureaucracy and security it takes to keep the elite in power get more and more expensive
