In a tweet posted on his Twitter page on July 4th, NFL tight end for the New England Patriots Benjamin Watson called for a renewed commitment to God in a “Happy Birthday” message to America.

“Happy Birthday America!” exclaimed Benjamin Watson in a tweet. “It is in Him we live and move and have our being. May we renew our commitment to this most important truth. It will serve our communities, our nation and our world well.”

An outspoken Christian, Watson once said that “Jesus is our ultimate example of what it means to finish,” further explaining that “Jesus came to finish God[’]s awesome plan of salvation. He came to pay the penalty for our sins.”

Watson is also known for his pro-life stance, recently imploring men to support women and the “lives of the innocent,” suggesting “we can be silent no more.” The NFL tight end also called out actress and activist Alyssa Milano earlier this year for her comments on abortion, saying that Milano’s “claim that giving MORE children of color the right to be born will negatively affect ‘women of color’ reveals IGNORANCE, RACISM or some combination of both.”
