In her new book “The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo,” actress and comedian Amy Schumer writes in support of gun control.
In a final, post-acknowledgements section of the book, Schumer writes (caps in original):
ENDING GUN VIOLENCE ISN’T EASY, BUT A MOVEMENT HAS SPRUNG UP OVER THE LAST FEW YEARS THAT IS ACHIEVING REAL VICTORIES AND MAKING US SAFER.
Schumer, who is related to Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-New York), then offers three things for those who want gun control: “JOIN THE MOVEMENT”; “BE HEARD”; and “VOTE FOR GUN SAFETY.”
Schumer encourages Americans to join the gun-control group Everytown for Gun Safety, to contact their congressman or congresswoman, and to vote for those who support gun control. “The average congressperson represents fewer than 750,000 people,” she writes. “The NRA is great at getting their supporters to reach out and help stop or pass gun legislation.” Schumer encourages people to tell their senator, “you want them to vote for a criminal background check on every gun sale now!”
Finally Schumer advises readers to vote for those who support gun control. “If our current elected leaders won’t address this crisis, then we need to elect new leaders. It’s generally wise to vote against the congresspeople who have taken the most money from the gun lobby and for those who have voted in favor of universal background checks."
