Actress, singer and comedian Bette Midler has been tweeting about the mass shooting in Orlando.

On June 12 Omar Mateen, 29, murdered 49 people and wounded 53 others in the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida. Mateen himself was then killed by police.

In several tweets after the shooting, Midler expressed her support for gun control. On June 13 she wrote:

Yesterday President Obama made his 15th speech honoring those killed in mass slayings. 15 times! Where is our shame! Where is our honor?

There is something profoundly wrong with a nation that allows its citizens to be slaughtered the way we have. We are ill. Maybe terminally.

Midler then retweeted a tweet from radio host Andy Cohen:

It's time to ban the AR-15. Come on Congress, grow a pair. There are plenty of guns people can own. People don't need assault rifles.
