Nothing shows the impact of an anti-capitalism, anti-corporate movement like … capitalism. Occupy Wall Street’s influence on the world it hates – the free market sale of goods and services – has never been stronger.
As of early Monday morning, there were more than 5,000 items for sale on eBay about the Occupiers – including a $4.99 T-shirt with the slogan “ADVOCATE OF A GREED-FREE AMERICA.” That’s more than four times the number of items available on eBay less than a month ago.
According to that entry, “this shirt will be used by protesters during the Occupy Phoenix protest in support of Occupy Wall street.” Perhaps, the makers of the shirt at Greedfreeamerica.com, also make a shirt with a similar slogan about irony.
Interestingly, the non-sexist folks at Occupy Wall Street are selling more than 3,600 items for men and just about 700 specifically for women and another 800-plus unisex. While that doesn’t make men the 99 percent of the auctions, it does make them roughly 73 percent. Wonder if someone will protest.
But wait, there’s more:
· “We Are The 99%” -- Occupy Wall Street wrist bands – just $2.99 plus shipping. You get to “Show Unity and Support The Movement!!!” and wear the new official color of protest – orange, “whether protesting locally, occupying your city's financial district, posting your story online, talking to anyone who will listen, contributing financially, or quietly engaged in mind and spirit.”
· The Smiley Face T-shirt with the slogan “Occupy Wall Street: We come unarmed and in peace” with the words “this time” overlaid on top of the others. That certainly sums up the OWS threatening mindset. The bidding starts at $9.99, but you can buy it outright for $14.99.
· The arresting T-shirt with the appropriate slogan: “OCCUPY WALL STREET PROTEST T-SHIRT- ‘I Went to Wall Street.....Got Arrested.’” There’s a large market for these as the Twitter tag #OccupyArrests says 3,350 people have been arrested at the protests worldwide.
· And who could be without the “ANARCHIST GIFT SET?” It includes “six patches, six stickers and six buttons” – such as the black flag of anarchy, the word “Riot” with a version of the Nike swoosh and “Resist” showing a monkey wrench being thrown into gears. Better hurry, there are only two available and bidding starts at $9.99.
