In a bid to win a photo contest, a Washington woman put an octopus on her face and posed for a picture – with painful results.

“I probably made a big mistake,” Jamie Bisceglia told local KIRO news, explaining that she had no idea that octopi have beaks:

“It had barreled its beak into my chin and then let go a little bit and did it again. It was a really intense pain when it went inside, and it just bled, dripping blood for a long time.”

“So, crazy me. Hindsight now and looking back, I probably made a big mistake,” she said.

Bisceglia says she she’s still in pain, and that doctors tell her that the swelling in her face can last for months.

“This was not a good idea,” Bisceglia told KIRO.
