On Monday, when the nation celebrates Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, former President Donald Trump released a statement mocking hostile MSNBC hosts for their low ratings and the potential cancellation of their shows. Liberal website Mediaite singled out Trump’s comment about MSNBC Host Joy Reid to characterize the former president’s comments as an attack on women and minorities, not as a response to liberal media personalities who attack him.
Mediaite begins its story by claiming that Trump insulted Reid on Monday in order to “commemorate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.” In its article reporting that Trump insulted Reid, Mediaite actually misspelled the MSNBC host’s name:
“How did former President Donald Trump commemorate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day? Well, he started by insulting Black woman cable news host Joy Ried, [sic] promoting baseless theories about her job security, and also hit Morning Joe’s ratings as well.”
“His bigger insult was left to Reid, following his troubling trend of insulting women of color.”
In his statement, Trump refers to Reid as a “racist commentator” and chides the MSNBC hosts regarding news reports predicting that their shows will soon be cancelled:
“Will Morning Joe be canceled? He and Mika’s ratings are very low—they are having an extremely hard time finding an audience to listen to the Fake News they spurn. Losing them would be very sad—hope it doesn’t happen! On another front, looks like Unjoy Reid, the racist commentator on MSDNC (MSNBC), is toast. Her stupidity is only surpassed by her absolute lack of television persona. She never had it, and never will. The only thing she’s good at is spewing racist hate but obviously, no one is listening!”
Mediaite calls the stories about the cancellations “laughable” because they have “not been reported by any reputable news source”:
“As for Joy Reid’s future, and claims she is ‘toast’ is a laughable idea that has not been reported by any reputable source to date.”
