“Blessed are the peacemakers,” political commentator and Investigative Journalist Geraldo Rivera said Wednesday, congratulating President Donald Trump for being nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize.

In his daily Twitter video, Rivera applauds the president for brokering the Middle East peace deal that prompted the nomination – and says the news “is sure to gag his political opponents”:

“Blessed Are The Peacemakers. In a surprise that is sure to gag his political opponents, President Donald Trump has just been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for brokering that peace deal between Israel and the United Arab Emirates. Nominated for the prestigious award by a Norwegian legislator. Congratulations, Mr. President.”

Trump was nominated by a populist Progressive Party lawmaker, Fox News reports:

Christian Tybring-Gjedde, a lawmaker with the populist Progress Party, told the "Fox News Rundown" podcast Wednesday that Trump "should be awarded" for the groundbreaking agreement, which normalizes relations between the two countries following what Gjedde characterized as "hostile conditions for as long as you can remember."

Gjedde says he believes former President Barack Obama was nominated because of his speeches about what he intended to do, but he nominated Trump for what he actually accomplished:

"I think the Peace Prize was given to Obama because the Nobel Peace Committee leader was very flattered and also very impressed by Obama's speeches and how he behaved during his first month in office as a president," Gjedde said.
