“Impeachment is as inevitable as #DonaldTrump’s eventual acquittal. The net result will be more division on a nation already torn asunder,” Political Commentator Geraldo Rivera tweeted Tuesday, introducing a video reacting to Democrats’ determination to impeach President Donald Trump a second time with just eight days left in his presidency.
While Democrats are blaming President Donald Trump for inciting the storming of the U.S. Capitol last week by what he said in a speech, Trump says he didn’t mean for his words to have that effect. Nonetheless, the president should apologize, Rivera said:
“He says he didn’t mean it, he didn’t mean it to incite. And, his inflammatory words, indeed I tell you as an attorney, may be protected by the First Amendment. Still, the president should apologize. He should tell his supporters: ‘No violence.’”
“Impeachment remains the unswerving goal of House Democrats,” but “Impeachment, I think again, is a loser,” Rivera said, adding that Congress’ time would be better spent on delivering a coronavirus to the American people:
“Trump will soon be gone. Let history judge him. Let’s focus on vaccine distribution, for goodness’ sake.”
