The Republican Party has become “the party of White Supremacy,” but their senators can make amends by convicting former President Donald Trump, liberal Filmmaker Rob Reiner says.
Republican senators must vote to convict former President Donald Trump in his Senate trial, or they will be voting for racism, Reiner tweeted Wednesday:
“The Republican Party has chosen to overtly embrace and become the party of White Supremacy. In the trial of Sedition against Donald Trump, Republican Senators will be forced to choose. Racism or Democracy. It’s that simple.”
In an earlier tweet on Wednesday, Reiner claimed that the U.S. is in the midst of another civil war – and said that there could be no peace without Trump’s conviction in the Senate:
“Our original sin is at the the (sic) root of our continuing Civil War. Donald Trump, the new leader of the Confederacy, heads the Sedition. If he is not held accountable with a Senate conviction, there will be no Appomattox.”
Confederate General Robert E. Lee surrendered to Union General Ulysses S. Grant at Appomattox Courthouse in Virginia, essentially ending the Civil War, in April of 1865.
