Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg sent out a tweet on Monday that featured a photo of him hugging his husband Chasten from behind and wishing this spouse a happy Valentine’s Day.

“Happy Valentine’s Day, my love!” Buttigieg said in the message he inserted above the photo.

The tweet followed one he had sent out the day before wishing his mother a happy birthday. That tweet featured a photo of his mother and said: “Especially thankful this year, now that our two new little ones can get to know your example and your love.”

The two new little ones were the two babies that Buttigieg and his husband had made “welcome” in their family in September.

On Sept. 4, Buttigieg sent out a tweet that said: “Chasten and I are beyond thankful for all the kind wishes since first sharing the news that we’re becoming parents. We are delighted to welcome Penelope Rose and August Buttigieg to our family.”

The same day Buttigieg sent out that tweet, National Public Radio published a story about Buttigieg’s new children. The NPR report said in part:

“When Pete Buttigieg, the secretary of transportation, announced last month that he and his husband Chasten had become parents, the congratulations were many but the details were few.

“At the time, they expressed their excitement but did not share any additional information about their new child, saying only "the process isn't done yet."

“Now, the good news has doubled: On Saturday, the Buttigiegs announced they have welcomed not one but two children — a daughter and a son. … Pete Buttigieg is the country's first openly gay person to hold a Senate-confirmed position in the Cabinet.”
