Spiritual life has its surprises. Conversions to deeper spirituality, for example, are often not anticipated. Our soul may be crying out for more substantial relations with God, but we do not realize this initially. The frustration of not knowing Our Lord as desired is perhaps felt more strongly on those occasions when we are quiet and alone, not reaching for a smart phone or media diversion, or when by some interior impulse we finally make our way to an unoccupied church to pray.
