( - Sen. Michael Bennet of Colorado, one of two dozen Democrats running for president, is assuring Americans he'll be so busy in the White House we won't hear from him very much.

On Wednesday, appearing on MSNBC's "Morning Joe," Bennet doubled down on his August 6 tweet, where he wrote:

"If you elect me president, I promise you won’t have to think about me for 2 weeks at a time. I’ll do my job watching out for North Korea and ending this trade war. So you can go raise your kids and live your lives."

Questioned about that tweet on Wednesday, Bennet replied:

You know, as I'm on the campaign trail, and...I have been meeting people who are trying to build a business and support their family and are sickened by the politics in Washington. Watching Donald Trump's presidency is like-- it's like watching one of those car accidents on the highway that you can't take your eyes away from but you know you've got other things you've got to do.

And I think anybody, you know, if I'm the next president, my hope is that two weeks at a time I'll be doing the job of president, taking care of North Korea, reestablishing our alliances in Europe, and not wasting everybody's time every day with my endless reality TV show, which is what Donald Trump is doing.

He's exhausted all of us. And I think it's time for this to be behind us and to move on. The opportunity costs of this presidency are just extraordinary.

President Trump, a daily, serial tweeter, occasionally takes credit for boosting TV ratings, even at the cable networks that criticize him 24/7.

In 2018, he tweeted: "In 7 years, when I am no longer in office, their ratings will dry up and they will be gone!"

More recently, this past July, he warned that cable ratings will tank if Joe Biden is elected: "The LameStream Media will die in the ratings and clicks with this guy."
