(CNSNews.com) – While Hurricane Ian was bearing down on Florida, President Biden was attending the Democratic Governors Association reception on Wednesday, a decision that would have been criticized if former President Donald Trump had done it, Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) said Wednesday.

“The president’s schedule tonight has him attending a political fundraiser while the storm is hitting the state of Florida.  Is it still his intent to go to the fundraiser, or will he stay here at the White House and monitor developments?” CBS News Radio White House Correspondent Steven Portnoy asked Wednesday.

“So, we don’t have anything to — any changes in his schedule.  He has been really steadfast and very clear and has spoken multiple times on what is happening in Florida and what we are seeing with Hurricane Ian and other hurricanes right before those — Hurricane Fiona as well, as you all know, and so his administration is on top of this,” White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said.

“He, again, signed the declaration for Florida, even before landfall — right? — the moment that the governor asked for assistance from us. Within hours, the president signed that declaration. You can see how focused he is on it,” she said.

“You can see how important of an issue this is, and sadly, this is not the first extreme weather scenario that we have had to deal with under this administration for the last 19 months, and you have seen — and I think you would agree, Steve — and you have seen this administration respond with efficiency, respond with the full force of resources, and — and certainly take this incredibly seriously,” Jean-Pierre said.

“The schedule has coverage — press coverage of the fundraiser tonight as restricted. Is the White House willing to lift that restriction and see to it that cameras are allowed in to videotape the president’s remarks?” Portnoy asked.

“So, as you know, that’s a political event, so that’s something for the DNC to speak to directly,” Jean-Pierre said.

“And if President Trump did that you can imagine what the left would say?” Rep. Jim Jordan told Fox News’ “The Ingraham Angle” on Wednesday, “and you're exactly right. Leadership matters. We had great leadership under President Trump. We’re seeing great leadership from the governor.

“I think the governor – what did he say? He already had 40,000 line workers on stand-by. He’s got National Guard on stand-by. They've got planes ready to go,” the congressman said.

"I think you talk about air, land and sea ready to help the residents and families of his district and he’s already set up a way to raise money for the families who we're all praying for who are going to be impacted about this and as you point out, what’s Joe Biden doing?” Jordan said.

“Raising money for himself and for Democrats - the same people giving us all the problems we see unfolding across our country, whether it's crime, whether it’s border, whether it’s inflation the last 20 months. So leadership matters and we're seeing a stark contrast between real leadership that we had under president trump and this governor and what we now have with President Biden,” he said.
