Sen. Menendez: Trump Has ‘Constitutional Duty to Enforce Immigration Laws As They Are’

(CNSNews.com) – Senator Robert Menendez (D-N.J.) said President Donald Trump has a constitutional duty to enforce the immigration laws as they are written and not in a way that he wishes them to be.

At the U.S. Capitol on Tuesday, CNSNews.com asked Sen. Menendez, “Article 2, Section 3 of the Constitution says the president ‘shall take care that the laws be faithfully executed.’ Does the president have a constitutional duty to enforce the immigration laws?”

Senator Menendez said, “Yes, he has the constitutional duty to enforce immigration laws as they are, not as he wishes them to be -- that includes the right to asylum in the United States as expressed to the law.”

Analysts from Yale University and MIT released a study in September 2018 on illegal immigration. “Using mathematical modeling on a range of demographic and immigration operations data, the researchers estimate there are 22.1 million undocumented immigrants in the United States,” reported Yale Insights.
