(CNSNews.com) - Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D.-N.Y.) said in a video conversation she had online on June 5 that she embraces the term “radical” and that what it “really means” is that “you get to the root of problems.”
“That word has just kind of been coopted as though you are just kind of some—I don’t know--loony-tune out here,” she said.
“But what it really means is if you are radical you get to the root of problems,” she said.
“Which is why I have never been offended and I embrace that term because it means that we believe the systemic problems require systemic solutions,” said Ocasio-Cortez.
Here is a transcript of the part of Rep. Ocasio-Cortez’s video conversation where she talked about embracing the term “radical:”
Ocasio-Cortez: “It’s so important that we recognize and uplift exactly what you said. Is that these are systemic problems. They do not go away by changing a tactic. They do not go away by banning a chokehold. They do not go away by tweeking a million bucks in a budget. They come with wholesale change. That is what the word ‘radical’ really means, by the way. It means the roots, getting to the root of problems. And that word has just kind of been coopted as though you are just kind of some—I don’t know--loony-tune out here. But what it really means is if you are radical you get to the root of problems. Which is why I have never been offended and I embrace that term because it means that we believe the systemic problems require systemic solutions.”
