(CNSNews.com) - In a videotaped segment played Tuesday night at the Democrat National Convention, Jill and Joe Biden reminisced about how they met.
"She is so damned tough and loyal," Joe said. "When I met Jill, I knew. My brother said, there's this woman, you'll really like her, Joe. So I gave her a call. And she had a date that night."
Jill chimed in: "You said, do you think you could break your date?"
"Oh, that's right," Joe said. "Yeah. And what did you do?" he asked her.
"Well, I called and told the guy that I had a friend in from out of town and went out with Joe."
Joe explained that at the time, he was a 30-year-old senator, a widower with two young boys. He said he "wasn't big on the whole date scene, but when I met Jill, I fell in love with her when I saw her."
Joe said he asked Jill to marry him five times. She said she didn't say yes until she was sure it would be forever.
Joe said Jill "put us back together. She gave me back my life."
The meet-Jill-Biden videotape was the lead-in to Dr. Biden's taped speech, which she delivered from an empty classroom at Brandywine High School in Delaware.
At the end of her speech, where Jill promised that Joe would "bring us together and make us whole," Joe Biden walked on camera to explain what kind of "first lady -- lady-lady-lady -- this Jill Biden will be."
"You can see why she's the love of my life, the rock of our family,” Joe said. “And you know, for all of you out there across the country, just think of your favorite educator who gave you the confidence to believe in yourself. That's the kind of first lady -- lady-lady-lady -- this Jill Biden will be. God love you."
