(CNS News) -- Bishop Joseph Strickland, head of the Diocese of Tyler, Texas, publicly called on Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden to "repent" from his support of abortion and gay "marriage" for "his own salvation" and the good of the country.
Biden, a Catholic, supports myriad practices and policies that are contrary to the teachings of the Catholic Church, such as abortion on demand, same-sex marriage, transgender females (biological males) in women's sports and locker rooms, and gay adoption.
As a bishop I beg Mr Biden to repent of his dissent from Catholic teaching on abortion & marriage for his own salvation & for the good of our nation. He aspires to the highest office in our land & must be guided by the truth God has revealed to us. I pray for him to find Truth.

Publicly calling him to repent shows that Bishop Strickland cares for Biden's immortal soul.
In a Nov. 19 tweet, Bishop Strickland said, "As a bishop I beg Mr Biden to repent of his dissent from Catholic teaching on abortion & marriage for his own salvation & for the good of our nation."
"He aspires to the highest office in our land & must be guided by the truth God has revealed to us," said the bishop. "I pray for him to find Truth."
The Catechism of the Catholic Church states, "Since the first century the Church has affirmed the moral evil of every procured abortion. This teaching has not changed and remains unchangeable. Direct abortion, that is to say, abortion willed either as an end or a means, is gravely contrary to the moral law: You shall not kill the embryo by abortion and shall not cause the newborn to perish."

On so-called gay marriage, the Catholic Church teaches, "There are absolutely no grounds for considering homosexual unions to be in any way similar or even remotely analogous to God's plan for marriage and family. Marriage is holy, while homosexual acts go against the natural moral law. Homosexual acts “close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. Under no circumstances can they be approved."
