(CNSNews.com) - Heisman Trophy winner and College Football Hall of Fame member Herschel Walker appeared on “Lou Dobb Tonight” on Fox Business on Wednesday and said that Donald Trump, who he has known for 37 years, is not a racist.

“But I can tell you right now: Donald Trump is not a racist,” Walker said.

“And I think that’s what people need to know,” he said.

Dobbs asked Walker why he was “getting involved now” and talking about the issue of race.

“I wanted you to join us tonight to talk about what we are watching in this country on the issue or race,” Dobbs said to Walker. “That was supposed to be a topic last night in the debate. It got kind of lost and I think that’s a shame. You have taken on this issue. I’ve never seen you be so outspoken and courageously so. I want to commend you and I want to ask you to share your reasons for getting involved now, if you would.”

“Well, the reason I am getting involved right now is I love America and also I’m a Christian,” said Walker.

“I love the Lord, Jesus Christ,” he said.

“And what I see going on, there is no doubt, I’ve told many people I think there is equality that we have to get straight,” said Walker. “But I think when people start calling the president of the United States a racist, a man that I have known for 37 years, I’m going to get involved.

“I am going to get involved and say: He’s not a racist,” said Walker.

“And, you know, last night I heard that term. I even heard a term, they asked him to denounce what they called ‘The Proud Boys’ and I said, you know, that was a strange thing to ask, because I’ve seen him denounce that many times,” said Walker. “And I’m not sure why he had to denounce it again and again.

“But I can tell you right now: Donald Trump is not a racist,” said Walker. “And I think that’s what people need to know.

“And judge him on the things that he has done, not what people tell you he has done,” said Walker. “Because this man has done a lot of things.”

After the program, Lou Dobbs sent out a tweet about his interview with Walker and Walker retweeted it.

“Supporting Black Americans: @Herschel Walker reiterates that @realDonaldTrump has done far more for the Black community than Joe Biden did in his years as vice president,” Dobbs said in his tweet.

“Thank you @LouDobbs Tonight,” Walker said in his retweet.

Here is a transcript of the exchange between Lou Dobbs and Herschel Walker on President Trump and the issue of race:

Lou Dobbs: “Joining us now is Herschel Walker, former NFL player, Hall of Famer, Heisman Trophy winner and great American. Herschel, it’s great to see you and thanks for being with us. I wanted you to join us tonight to talk about what we are watching in this country on the issue or race. That was supposed to be a topic last night in the debate. It got kind of lost and I think that’s a shame. You have taken on this issue. I’ve never seen you be so outspoken and courageously so.
