(CNSNews.com) - Andrew McCabe, the former (fired) Acting Deputy Director of the FBI, has landed in the pundit chair at CNN.
McCabe authorized both the obstruction of justice investigation and the counter-intelligence investigation into President Trump.
Then-Attorney General Jeff Sessions fired McCabe in March 2018, just before McCabe could begin receiving his retirement benefits.
He was fired after the Justice Department inspector-general found that McCabe made an unauthorized disclosure to the news media and "lacked candor, including under oath, on multiple occasions."
The IG also found that McCabe disclosed the existence of an ongoing FBI investigation into the Clinton Foundation, an act that "constituted misconduct."
CNN's Alisyn Camerota welcomed McCabe on Friday's "New Day."
So joining us now is the former acting director of the FBI, Andrew Mccabe. He'is also the newest member of the CNN team. So we welcome him. He is joining us for his first appearance as a CNN contributor.
Also, as our viewers know, I should get this in, Andrew, you were fired by the FBI 48 hours before your pension vested. You're now suing the FBI and DOJ to get your pension back. (She did not explain why he was fired.)
However, today, right now, we want to start with what you spent your time doing and that's counter terrorism. So you oversaw all the counter terrorism efforts during your tenure at the FBI. And I want to start by saying, what do you think is happening in the country that every single day since the Gilroy garlic festival attack, on this program, we have reported on a mass shooting or its aftermath or a foiled mass shooting plot?
“Yeah, well thank you, Alisyn, and it's great to be here,” McCabe said. “I think what we're seeing across the country right now is renewed awareness, not just at the FBI but across law enforcement, state and local and tribal levels as well...."
Neither Camerota nor McCabe said anything about the Mueller investigation or McCabe's Trump-bashing book, titled, "The Threat: How the FBI Protects America in the Age of Terror and Trump."
