(CNSNews.com) - A new book by former (fired) FBI Director James Comey paints an unflattering picture of President Trump as a lying, egotistical mob boss, to name a few of the many Comey disparagements.
On Friday morning, as liberal cable outlets recited various book excerpts to viewers, President Trump made it clear that the feelings are mutual:
"James Comey is a proven LEAKER & LIAR,' Trump tweeted. "Virtually everyone in Washington thought he should be fired for the terrible job he did-until he was, in fact, fired. He leaked CLASSIFIED information, for which he should be prosecuted. He lied to Congress under OATH. He is a weak and untruthful slime ball who was, as time has proven, a terrible Director of the FBI. His handling of the Crooked Hillary Clinton case, and the events surrounding it, will go down as one of the worst 'botch jobs' of history. It was my great honor to fire James Comey!"
According to one blurb by CNN, Comey's book -- “A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies, and Leadership" -- "is nothing less than the most devastating, contemporaneous takedown of a sitting president in modern history." The New York Times hailed the book as "very persuasive."
Comey gave his first interview to ABC News's George Stephanopoulos earlier this week, and it is scheduled to air on Sunday in prime time.
Meanwhile, the Justice Department's inspector-general is expected to release his report on the FBI's (and Comey's) handling of the Hillary Clinton email investigation in the not-too-distant future.
In his book, Comey writes about the Clinton case: "Hindsight is always helpful, and if I had to do it over again, I would do some things differently."
Among other things, Comey says he "would have tried to find a better way to describe Secretary Clinton’s conduct ... my use of ‘extremely careless’ naturally sounded to many ears like the statutory language ‘grossly negligent,’ even though thoughtful lawyers could see why it wasn’t the same.”
The Republican National Committee has set up a Lyin' Comey webpage, featuring a video of various Democrats blasting Comey for reopening the Clinton email investigation eleven days before the election.
