( - "This week we saw cold, hard evidence of the Trump campaign, indeed the Trump family, eagerly intending to collude, possibly, with Russia--a hostile foreign power--to influence American elections,” House  Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) told  news conference on Thursday.

She called for the release of all communications with Trump campaign and Trump family.

“The GOP must immediately join us in a call for the release of all communications within the Trump campaign and within the family by email, text, Twitter, or any other direct message," Pelosi said.

“I have asked over and over again, what do the Russians have politically, personally or financially on Donald Trump that the American people should know," she said.

Pelosi also accused congressional Republicans of enabling the “Trump-Russia assault on our democracy”; demanded the revocation of Jared Kushner’s security clearance; and demanded the appointment of an outside commission.

(Republicans made a similar request for "all communications" that passed over Hillary Clinton's personal email server, but she omitted an untold number that she deemed "personal.")

As Pelosi spoke, CNN was reporting that Judiciary Committee Chairman Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) is writing a letter to Donald Trump, Jr., asking him to testify next week, in public, about his meeting with a Russian government attorney from whom he expected to get information that could be used against Hillary Clinton.

In a month when Americans celebrate the courage of the nation’s founders, “the Republicans in Congress have become enablers of the Trump-Russia assault on our democracy,” Pelosi said. “After these latest revelations, it is becoming clear we have suffered a desecration of our democracy not seen since Watergate.

“Speaker Ryan must allow a vote on an outside, independent commission to get to the bottom of the Trump campaign’s role in the assault on our democracy and prevent Putin from ever doing it again.”

Pelosi noted that Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation is taking place inside the Justice Department, and the Senate and House intelligence committees are "inside" investigations as well.

"We need an outside independent commission to investigate this,” she said. "Why are Republicans continuing to hide the truth?" she asked.

She also singled out Trump's son-in-law and top adviser Jared Kushner, saying the GOP must hold him accountable for the false statements on his national security disclosure form. “His security clearance must be revoked immediately,” she said.

Pelosi hit most of the points made earlier Thursday morning on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” where the hosts and various guests also demanded the revocation of Kushner’s security clearance, which would make it impossible for him to work closely with President Trump.
