(CNSNews.com) - Two dedicated anti-Trump stalwarts are using their media platform in an attempt to goad President Trump into speaking with Special Counsel Robert Mueller.

Joe Scarborough and Stephen Colbert separately on Tuesday offered some not-so-well-meaning advice to the president: Your lawyers think you're too stupid or too chicken to speak to Special Counsel Robert Mueller, so you should "prove them wrong" and go do it.

Scarborough, the conservative-turned-liberal host of MSNBC's "Morning Joe," has railed against the president since Trump's election. On Tuesday's show, Scarborough said:

If you want to know where we are right now, this is where we are with the president...Basically, the lawyers don't want him to talk to Robert Mueller, in part because they know Robert Mueller's a lot smarter than Donald Trump. So Donald Trump's being led around by the nose by his lawyers. And everybody else -- and everybody, they don't believe that he's smart enough to handle Bob Mueller.

But then they also say this. This is amazing, that this is the second paragraph of the lead story in The New York Times: "His lawyers are concerned that the president, who has a history of making false statements and contradicting himself, could be charged with lying to the prosecutor."

So basically, his own lawyers are suggesting-- Mr. President, I'd get new lawyers! Mika, let me finish my  sentence. It's really important. This may be the most important sentence I've made in the last 30 seconds. Mr. President, your own lawyers think you are too stupid and too much of a liar to stand up to the heat that Bob Mueller is going to send your direction. So if I had lawyers that thought I was too stupid to talk to Bob Mueller, I tell you what I'd do, what any man would do, or any woman would do that had any confidence in themself -- they would do that interview.

And they would show those lawyers. They would show those lawyers, that they're not scared, that they don't have small hands, that they're not timid, that they have big, beautiful, hands and they've a big, beautiful mind. And they're not going to let their lawyers think that they're too stupid and too much of a liar to talk to Bob Mueller.

(Mika Brzezinski): Remember when I asked him who he spoke to, who were his advisers and he said he spoke to himself?

(Scarborough) He says he's a really smart guy. Your lawyers think you're dumb and they think you're a liar, I think you need to prove them wrong.

In a similar vein, late-night talk show host Stephen Colbert announced "big, big news out of the Russia investigation" on Tuesday night:

According to sources at the White House, Donald Trump's lawyers are telling him to refuse an interview with Robert Mueller because the president, who has a history of making false statements and contradicting himself, could be charged with lying to investigators. ( Laughter )

Yeah. It is a crack legal analysis from the law firm of "No, Sh**, and Sherlock." They're a fine firm. Fine...Now, there is one Trump lawyer saying the president should cooperate with Mueller, and that's Trump attorney and man bitten by a radioactive Wilford Brimley, Ty Cobb. Now Cobb has argued that the White House should do everything possible to cooperate with Mr. Mueller's investigation, and says the White House is in "total cooperation mode." Yes "total cooperation."

....Now, I know Trump watches this show, because it's on TV. ( Laughter ) So right now, I've got a special message for him. Mr. President, ignore your lawyers. You follow your instincts and you sit down with Robert Mueller. Otherwise, everyone's going to think that you're scared, but we know you're not. Oh, oh, your fried chicken has arrived! Oh, wait, it's empty. Where is that? Oh, I think I know where the chicken is. Bawk, bawk, bawk. Bawk, bawk, bawk.

He'll do it. He'll do it!
