(CNSNews.com) - Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) told the New York Times on Thursday that in hindsight, President Bill Clinton should have resigned because of his sexual misconduct with White House intern Monica Lewinsky.
Gillibrand is calling for a "very different conversation" regarding the sexual misconduct allegations lodged against President Donald Trump, whom Democrats are eager to remove from office, one way or another.
Trump has strongly denied groping or kissing the dozen-plus women who accused him during the campaign.
"Is it your view that President Clinton should have stepped down at that time, given the allegations?" The New York Times asked Gillibrand for its podcast.
"Yes, I think that is the appropriate response," Gillbrand said. "But I think things have changed today, and I think under those circumstances, there should be a very different reaction, and I think in light of this conversation, we should have a very different conversation about President Trump and a very different conversation about allegations against him."
In other words, maybe it wasn't okay for Bill Clinton to remain in office back then, but it's certainly not okay for Donald Trump to remain in office now, given the new focus on sexual assault and harassment.
(On liberal cable-TV outlets Friday, various anchors asked why some accusers should be believed while others are not.)
On his radio show Thursday, conservative host Rush Limbaugh said that Democrats are using the Roy Moore "as a pretext to get rid of Trump in future impeachment proceedings."
But then along came photographic evience against Democrat Sen. Al Franken, who has thrown a wrench in their plans:
"What are the Democrats gonna do?," Limbaugh asked. "They’re trying to get rid of two Republicans, and here comes this big hypocrite, Al Franken, totally gumming up the works, totally screwing up the plan!
"I mean, they want to get rid of Roy Moore, and they want to use that to get rid of Donald Trump, and here comes Franken, and there’s an actual picture of Franken doing it. The woman is sleeping and she’s wearing, you know, camo gear on a C-17 on the way back from a USO tour."
A photo snapped on the plane in December 2006 shows Franken, a sly grin on his face, putting his hands over the woman's breasts as she slept.
"But here’s the problem for the Democrats," Limbaugh continued:
The Democrats are going to town disqualifying, trying to get rid of Roy Moore, and the Republicans have joined them in this. Everybody in Washington wants Roy Moore nowhere near that town. They are going into every weapons depot they’ve got for every weapon they’ve got against this guy. Republicans and Democrats alike.
Now, the Democrats are doing this because they want the seat in Alabama. They don’t want Roy Moore there. And they’re using this as a pretext to get rid of Trump in future impeachment proceedings -- not Russia, not collusion, but this stuff.
And that’s another reason why so many of these journalists who gave Bill Clinton a pass are now turning tail and basically saying, 'You know, we blew it. We were too young, we didn’t know what was going on, we do now, and what Bill Clinton did was terrible and horrible.' They’ve got to do that if they’re gonna go after Trump.
