(CNSNews.com) – Maybe you thought the congressional race in Georgia was the only election of consequence on Tuesday.
But when the leading Democrat, Jon Ossoff, failed to get at least 50 percent of the vote in Georgia’s 6th congressional district, Democrats couldn’t point to an outright win for him.
But now they’ve found a “D” winner – in a little-known race in Prince William County, Virginia, a far suburb of Washington, D.C.:
“Also last night, Democrat Jacqueline C. Smith also pulled out an 8-point win over a Virginia Republican heavyweight in a local clerk of court race in Prince William County, VA.,” the DNC said in an email circulated on Wednesday.
The DNC email quoted the Prince William Times as saying, “Democrat Jacqueline Smith beats long odds, big money in special election for court clerk.”
It quoted the Richmond Times-Dispatch as saying, “Democrat defeats GOP's House majority whip in contest for court clerk in Prince William.”
And finally, it quoted the liberal Huffington Post as saying, “Virginia Democrats took control of a local court clerkship on Tuesday in a defeat for one of the state’s top Republican lawmakers.”
The DNC began its email by touting Ossoff’s commanding lead in the inconclusive Georgia race:
I hate to break it to you, Sean Spicer, but Jon Ossoff won by a 30 point margin and only shows that Republicans are in trouble. Even with being outspent 2-to-1 with ad buys and robocalls by President Trump and his billionaire friends, Democrat Jon Ossoff will enter Georgia’s Sixth Congressional District Special election runoff in a strong position, thanks to a groundswell of grassroots volunteers. This spells trouble for his opponent and GOP candidates whose districts are no longer safe for 2018.
The email was headed: “Special Elections In GA and VA Should Terrify the Party of Trump.”
