Planned Parenthood Anniversary Called Nothing to Celebrate

(CNSNews.com) - Planned Parenthood, the nation's largest abortion provider, marked its 90th anniversary Monday, but a pro-life group wondered why anyone would want to "celebrate" a group that has killed millions of babies through abortion.

"Over the past 90 years, Planned Parenthood has managed to kill millions of pre-born children through abortion, push dangerous contraceptives on women and teens and saturate our culture with sexual promiscuity," said Jim Sedlak, vice president of the American Life League, in a press release.

"This begs the question of why anyone would ever 'celebrate' this organization's existence," Sedlak added.

From its inception in 1916, Planned Parenthood grew into the largest abortion chain in the nation, "using millions of dollars from American taxpayers to underwrite its aggressive promotion of abortion and sexual immorality," the ALL said.

"Despite how they attempt to spin their image, Planned Parenthood hardly represents the status quo in America," said Sedlak.

"This is an organization that, over the years, has bragged about the murder of babies with the offensive 'I had an abortion' T-shirt, mocked Christians with blasphemous 'Choice on Earth' holiday cards and targeted young people with an offensive line of condom-holder key chains," Sedlak added.

Even worse, Sedlak said, Planned Parenthood does all these things "on the American taxpayer's dime." The abortion provider netted $272 million in federal, state and local tax funding in the last fiscal year alone, which adds up to one-third of their income, he noted.

"Planned Parenthood will not survive without our taxpayer dollars," Sedlak said.

Planned Parenthood began as the brainchild of Margaret Sanger, a leader in the eugenics movement who in 1939 created the so-called "Negro Project" to promote birth control to black women.

"From the draconian Negro Project of the 1930s to the fact that 30 percent of Planned Parenthood's clinics are located in states with high Latino populations, it is evident that the organization still holds to Sanger's desires to prevent and limit births of minority children," said Sedlak.

"Millions of Americans are sick and tired of Planned Parenthood's radical propaganda and want to see the organization closed for good," he concluded. "We must work tirelessly to ensure that Planned Parenthood does not celebrate another anniversary of killing and corruption."

According to its website, Planned Parenthood considers itself the leading sexual and reproductive health-care advocate and provider. It believes that everyone has the "right to choose when or whether to have a child, that every child should be wanted and loved, and that women should be in charge of their destinies."

Planned Parenthood has more than 860 health centers nationwide and offers "high-quality health care, including birth control and family planning, gynecological care, STI/STD testing and treatment, pregnancy testing and abortion services," the website states.

"We advocate for expanded access to these services, drawing on a base of 3.5 million activists and supporters. We also work with allies worldwide to ensure that all women and men have the right and the means to meet their sexual and reproductive health-care needs," the group states on its website.
