One of 3,348 Women Tell Supreme Court About Harm From Abortion: It’s The ‘Daily Equivalent of 9/11’

(CNSNews.com) – One of the 3,348 women who are part of The Justice Foundation’s amicus curiae brief filed with the U.S. Supreme Court in the Whole Women’s Health v. Hellerstedt case compared the harm abortion causes to the trauma following the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, which killed almost 3,000 people.

“Nothing wounds you like being responsible for the death of your child,” Myra Jean Myers said at a press conference on Tuesday at the Family Research Council in Washington, D.C. “Do you realize today and every day is the daily equivalent of 9/11, when across America women and men are deceived and wounded?”

According to the Guttmacher Institute, there were 1.06 million abortions performed in the United States in 2011, which averages to 2,904 abortions every day. 

The press conference at the Family Research Council was held in advance of the oral arguments in Whole Women’s Health v. Hellerstedt  at the Supreme Court.

Myers recalled at the event that she was married with children in 1973, the year the high court legalized abortion across the United States in the Roe v. Wade case. When she became pregnant, her husband convinced her that she should have an abortion, which she did.

The injury she incurred from the abortion led to her having a hysterectomy.

“The truth needs to be known because today and every day the lies of the abortion industry are deceiving women, men, families and our nation,” Myers said. “Abortion is destroying our country from within and we need to protect women from the deception and wounding and damage.”

“As women injured by the abortion industry, these women know first-hand that the abortion industry misleads and deceives women and does not adequately protect their health in the abortion context,” the press release issued by The Justice Foundation stated.

“The Justice Foundation has collected the legally admissible testimonies of over 4,500 women injured by abortion and represents 3,348 of these women in their brief at the Supreme Court.”

Here are some of the stories from other women represented in the brief:

Amicus Kathryn Bretz, stated: “I specifically asked if this was a baby and was told, ‘No, it’s a formless blob of tissue.’ No one told me that this was a tiny baby who would be ripped apart. I was not informed of potential negative physical, psychological and spiritual consequences. The brochure stated that many women experience relief, without any consequences and it also stated ‘there may be a BRIEF period of sadness’. . . .

“The abortion has impacted my life negatively the day it happened and every day since for almost 30 years with unmanageable and powerful emotions of guilt, sorrow and raw pain. I developed a migraine disorder that has consumed my life, destroyed my career and finances. My inconsolable crying over the loss of my child, and knowing I was complicit in his death has caused deep, traumatic and overwhelming pain that can trigger a migraine.”

Amicus Penny stated: “I was talked to about my blood type, whether or not I was anemic, and asked whether I wanted to be able to have kids after. I cannot and have not been able to have kids at all even though I have always wanted them. I’ve lost that which makes me a woman and a mother. For the first two years, I was depressed [sic], all I wanted to do was die. I tried to commit suicide twice.”

Amicus Karen said: “I was told that my baby was not really a live baby, but that is was only a blob of flesh, and since it really wasn’t alive, I wouldn’t be killing anything. Later, when I saw the sonogram of my second living child, I saw that he was VERY ALIVE … and the guilt overwhelmed me.”

Amicus Rachel Ann Kingston stated: “No one talked to me at all about what would happen to me or to my baby. All they said is that I would [not] have to worry about anything. No one told me that I could bleed for several days, have horrible cramping and especially the emotional terror and anguish that would follow such a procedure. Also, I have had to have a hysterectomy afterwards and I will never be able to have children again.”
