Pelosi Says Border Wall is 'Immoral'

( -- When asked whether it would be better to build a border wall to stop people from illegally entering the United States than to have to arrest them once they do enter, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said a border wall is "immoral," and added that it it is better to "build a bridge."

At a Capitol Hill press conference on Thursday, asked Pelosi, "Would it be better to build a wall at the border -- that stops people from illegally crossing it -- than have to arrest them when they do?"

Pelosi said, "No, it would not be better to build a wall. A wall is expensive, ineffective, immoral, and where there might be some places where its useful from a security and a mutally agreed-upon protection for each side to have some structure, let's see what that is. But it's not better to build a wall. what's better to do is to build a bridge."

During his 2016 campaign and now as president, Donald Trump has repeatedly called for the building of a 30-foot wall along the U.S.-Mexico border where it is physically possible and practical. Currently there are about 650 miles of pedestrian-style fencing along the 1,989-mile U.S.-Mexico border. Most of that southern border is wide open, from the Gulf of Mexico to the Pacific.

Democrats, some Republicans, and liberal activists strongly oppose the erection of a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border. .  Less than an hour before Pelosi’s press conference, President Trump tweeted, “Democrats want open Borders, where anyone can come into our Country, and stay. This is Nancy Pelosi’s dream. It won’t happen!"
