(CNSNews.com) -- David Simon, a former journalist for The Baltimore Sun and executive producer of HBO's The Wire (2002-2008), used Twitter to express his desire that God use Hurricane Dorian to destroy Mar-a-Lago, a National Historic Landmark sometimes used for presidential meetings that is owned by President Donald Trump, who refers to it as the "Winter White House."
"After the last three years, the work of a just and righteous God cannot be considered credible evidence of His goodness unless He picks all of Mar-a-lago up by the roots, sails it across half of Florida and heaves it on top of Doral and its every last bedbug," tweeted Simon on Aug. 31, in response to a tweet that Mar-a-Lago was then in the projected path of Hurricane Dorian.
In response to how the hurricane would cause damage and potentially harm life, Simon tweeted, "Fucknuts, we are invoking an omnipotent divinity capable of heaving one Trump shithole atop another, destroying the realty and leaving no other soul’s hair mussed."
He also tweeted on Sept. 3, "Given this is NOT a #PresidentialRetreat, NOT owned by the public, and serves as a means of shaking down millions in public money for a kleptocratic grifter who intends to use it to steal ever more from the US Treasury, I am rooting for the Atlantic Ocean to acquire it. Yes."
Mar-a-Lago was built by the cereal heiress Marjorie Merriwether Post in the 1920s for the purpose of state visits and for use as a Winter White House. Japan's prime minister and the president of China have met with Trump at Mar-a-Lago. Trump purchased the property in 1985 and renovated it.
According to the New York Times, "Mr. Trump’s arrival was greeted with sneers by the Palm Beach elite, and he opened up Mar-a-Lago’s membership to Jews and African-Americans, who had been excluded from other members-only establishments. He was also the first club owner on the island to admit an openly gay couple."
Simon, a left-winger who despises President Trump and conservatives, as his Twitter feed reveals, wrote in a 2013 commentary, "And so in my country you're seeing a horror show. You're seeing a retrenchment in terms of family income, you're seeing the abandonment of basic services, such as public education, functional public education. You're seeing the underclass hunted through an alleged war on dangerous drugs that is in fact merely a war on the poor ...."
In another Sept. 3 tweet about Mar-a-Lago and Hurricane Dorian, Simon wrote, "Omnipotence is a thing. And my God isn't some candyass new-age skywizard. He's Yahweh, the OT OG, who walks Israelites across the sea while dunking armies nearby. If I wanna pray He drowns a grifter's golf course and leaves everything and everyone else intact, I will."
Simon was selected as a MacArthur fellow in 2010.
